Winter Day on the Beach

I love the beach any time of the year. There is something so relaxing and meditative in the water view. I would just LOVE to live on the water so that I could see it every day, first thing waking up, and last thing when going to bed...

Great Lines

As you know, I am a big fan of the top designer cheap chic lines. Here is a piece from Derek Lam's upcoming line for Kohl's, available in April. This is a reason to make a trip to Kohl's, which is foreign territory to me... I am slightly obsessed by this dress, it's just so perfectly cool and comfortable looking. Love the lines, love the colors, love the cut, love everything about it. I saw a look book of the full collection, and this really stood out from the rest. There are a couple of other nice pieces but this is by far the most interesting. Let's hope I can get my hands on this come April!

Happy Birthday

This weekend's birthday party was a big success, and the birthday girl, who turned five, didn't cry or throw a fit. She actually told me after the party, that she had a great time and was really happy! What else can you ask for - this is why we do it... All the work and preparation is worth seeing that smile! Here are some pictures of the festivities.

Home made cupcakes - yummy!

Decorative theme for the little ballerina

Balloons, streamers and butterflies...

And, of course, lots and lots of flowers!

In various colors...

Matching napkins.

Birthday girl picked her outfit on her own. Unfortunately the shoes don't show -
she was wearing Cinderella's glass slippers...

Birthday girl wanted an ice-cream cake - and chose this one.

Big sis prepping for a puppet show. The puppet theater was the best birthday present!

The show's on: Goldilocks and the three bears.

And then the next day, the birthday girl realized one of life's little truths, that age is just a number.  She said she still feels the same as when she was four. I told her it's ok. I still sometimes feel like I'm four too...

Blue Sliver

It was a beautifully bright and sunny, but devilishly cold day. I'm so lucky I see the sun from my current bright office, because for so many years I sat in second rate office spaces within the canyons of Manhattan, where you hardly get any sun at all. You go out at lunchtime hoping to catch a few rays, and all you see is the blue sliver of a sky in the high canyons...

Anyhow, so happy my weekend is here again. This was a great short work week - only three days! This weekend is a big party weekend as my middle daughter turns five. No party place for us, oh no.. We do it home with bells and whistles! Or should I say balloons and cakes. A party for friends and family with everything that goes with it, cleaning, cooking, shopping, organizing activities, making sure everyone has a good time, the birthday girl included...

Checking In

What a nice long weekend this was! It started from Thursday night's Valentine Date with my boyfriend (movie and dinner), included a little bit of shopping (for the girls only, but enjoyable, nevertheless), a very dear friend visiting for a couple of days, another movie with said friend and my 10-year old, lots of lounging around, spending quality time together, and to top it off, a visit to the Long Island Children's Museum.

I haven't been to movies for an adult movie (not that kind, heh) for such a long time and now I went twice within three days! Saw Lincoln first, and it was a great movie. Very well done with sets and clothing, but what truly shone was the acting. Daniel Day Lewis and Sally Field were absolutely amazing, and everyone else did very well too. It was a movie with lots of characters, and not one weak performance. The second movie was Life of Pi. A beautifully made movie with an amazing story. I had read the book years ago, and usually the book wins, but in this case the movie was also so superb, that it was on par with the book.

The children's museum is a great place and the kids had so much fun making bubbles, playing music, being the news cast, and doing lots of other cool stuff.

Here are a few pics from the weekend.

Valentine

Yes, yes, Happy Valentine's Day! It may be cheesy but still...gives you the opportunity to tell your loved ones how much you appreciate them and what you love about them. Of course the best thing is that you don't have to wait for Valentine's Day to do that. My daughter did not - I got this picture message from her weeks ago. Isn't it funny and cute? Love it!

Blizzard of 2013

We woke up this morning to a world covered in deep white fluff. After the past few days, or actually, weeks, I don't mind being stranded home for a day or two. I don't even know what happened to January and we're already more than a week into February.

Yesterday I was scared in case we lost power...still traumatized after Sandy. The fear wasn't totally unfounded, there are half a million people without power in the East Coast, but luckily, LUCKILY, we're not among them. Let's hope the power holds on!

Here are a few pics from yesterday and this morning.
