A Sunset on Long Island

My birthday weekend got started with this beautiful sunset walk last Thursday evening. This may become a new summertime Thursday night stable. There's no better way to wind down than enjoying a sunset and beautiful views with loved ones.

I love summer! You can get dressed and be out the door in a red hot minute. Yesterday's outfit was one of these super simple summer combinations; a lightweight blouse and a pencil skirt. Can it get any simpler? The blouse is from H&M, skirt is Vince Camuto, shoes Marco Tozzi.

Helsinki

I spent two wonderful weeks in Finland this summer, taking a break from the work stress, internet, news, and just hanging out with family and friends. Helsinki is such a beautiful city, and I love the fact that the downtown is surrounded by water. We stayed at the Grand Marina Hotel, which is my favorite hotel in Helsinki due to its great location in the city center, right next to the water, of course. Having been gone for more than 17 years, I do feel like a tourist when I go back to visit.

I'm wearing a Michael Kors dress and a J.Crew linen sweater, Tory Burch espadrilles. 

Happy August / New old shoes

I have always loved August. Partly because it's my birth month, and partly because it's the time of year when you feel fresh after a vacation and reflect on the months past, take stock of how the year has gone so far, change course if necessary, and start new exciting things. And it's still summer! This year I have taken more stock than usual because my birthday's a biggie. I did have to mentally adjust but the result is that I am happy where I am. Of course there are always a few things that we would change if we could.. I have no regrets though, and that feels good.

On style front, I am wearing a pair of Nine West open toe pumps that have been in my closet for about a year. Not sure why I never wore them before, because I love them. And these look great with my black and white Marimekko dress. I really need to start shopping more in my own closet. The new rule should be that nothing new should come in unless all the existing stuff has been worn at least once!

Welcome to the "Best is Here and Now" blog. This blog will remind me of the importance of living in the moment, and finding the beauty and happiness of my life as it is. As so many others, I too have a tendency of living for the future, and planning it in my head. And although looking ahead is a good thing, it can also get you stressed out, and make you miss out on the wonderful things happening right now. And there are lots of wonderful things happening in my life. Three little girls growing up, being all smart and cute and amazing. A career in the financial industry. A house that always requires some upkeep and re-decorating. Socializing with friends, hosting parties, traveling, shopping, trying to live healthy, enjoying the beautiful beaches of Long Island. Sometimes it all gets a bit much, but in those moments I just need to take a deep breath and remember that the best is here and now.
