It's been a really warm fall, but now finally it's that time of year when you need a coat. I don't mind, I love coats! I've been wearing my blue H&M trench coat lately. It's unlined, so it's perfect for when it's not quite cold enough yet for a heavier coat version...

Contrast

Today was a black and white kind of day. My daughter going to a friend's birthday dinner wearing a black and white dress from Urban Outfitters, Michael Kors bag and metallic platforms from Nordstrom; and me going to drop her and then to the mall wearing a Banana Republic top, Ann Taylor pants, Prada bag, and Tahari sandals. 

 

OOSD

This is not OOTD, but "Outfit Of Saturday Night". Went to a Mexican restaurant Besito with my date, i.e. my boyfriend of the last 24 years. Still making a little effort after all these years! I wore my Zara top, Old Navy jeans, J Crew heels, Gucci bag, and Alexis Bittar jewelry. Put my hair up on a high pony, and some new red lipstick and voilà: 

Clutch

It's finally t-shirt weather, and it's amazing how happy sunshine can make you. Today was the perfect spring day. I woke up not feeling well, but then nurtured myself back to health and was able to enjoy this beautiful day.

I've been looking for a day clutch for a while, and then I spotted this on the Forever 21 site. It's a little Ralph Laurenish in style, but was only $8.. I figured I can't go wrong with that. When it arrived I was super happy with the unexpectedly good quality.  I took it out first time today and received many compliments on it! One of those perfect finds... 

K.I.S.S.

One of my favorite acronyms is KISS, or Keep It Simple Stupid. I like simple for multitude of reasons, one being too lazy to do complicated. Anyway, I especially like to follow my KISS motto when packing and planning outfits for travel. If you pack anything too complicated the chances are you won't feel like wearing it at the location. So it has to be simple and comfortable. Here are my outfits for my four days in San Diego last week. 

Gray

Here is an outfit from a week or so ago, with my new big gray H&M scarf and old patterned leggings, cashmere cardigan, no makeup and hair in a tight ponytail. Maybe not my most glamorous self, but it's real... The mood was right for this gray day. 

New Shoes & Winter White Skirt Outfit

I got a winter white tweed skirt from Ann Taylor a while back and have been wearing it now that the weather got cool enough to put some stockings on. Here I paired the skirt with H&M t-shirt and jacket, my new Tory Burch penny loafer pumps, and the Balenciaga bag. I also finally recruited my lovely au pair to take pictures and got up the nerve to share my blog with her. She is a very gorgeous and stylish young lady, and I've been dying to ask her to pose for some outfit pictures. We shall see...

My Baby Girls

Everyone in the family is totally in love with our new baby girl Coco. So far she has only destroyed a couple of pairs of socks and one small Muumi toy. And anyway she is too cute to be mad at! My other baby girl thinks she is a big independent girl, although she still wants her pacifier at night, and wants to be my crocodile baby (don't ask). Coco and her share a boundless energy. Wish they could give me some!

Movie Night Outfit

Hubby and I went to the movies last night, and every time I go, I decide to start going more, it's so much low key relaxing fun. We saw Elysium, with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. It wasn't amazing, in fact, I had a lot of unanswered questions after the movie, which was good for discussion, but leaves you a bit unsatisfied at the movie. 

We had our after movie chat at Hendrick's in Roslyn, where we sat on a table next to a questionable local "celebrity", a woman from a sad Long Island reality show "Princesses Long Island" who had probably one of the most cringe worthy scenes of any reality show I've ever seen. In fact, I stopped watching the show after that episode, it was just too embarrassing, and anyway, I  saw the couple first episodes only out of curiosity, since I had heard it was filmed in my neighborhood. 

Anyway, did I at some point mention having had a craving for orange? Well I did something about it, and got this orange top from Ann Taylor; I paired the top with JBrand jeans, Marc Jacobs clutch, Eileen Fisher sandals, and Charlotte Russe necklace. 

Friday = Funday

I live for Fridays! My therapy session (walk/jog/stairclimbing in the gorgeous Seacliff scenery) this morning was exactly what I needed after spending most of the week inside. Afterwards got dressed up for running errands and grocery shopping. It is also so much more fun to dress on Fridays. The heat has finally broken, so was able to wear actual clothes ;-). I chose colorful accessories, shoes and scarf from Gap, pants from H&M, top from discount store (label cut out), bag from Michael Kors. 

A Riff on Nautical

Today's outfit felt good because it had a bit if a seaside feeling, and so I was thinking about my favorite LI beaches all day at the office. The jacket was a recent sale find from Gap, pants Ann Taylor, top Banana Republic, rope sandals Hunter, necklace Tiffany. 

Another summer casual office outfit

I am actually learning a lot about my style by looking at my outfits on this blog. I am learning about my real style, not what I think is my style. Turns out those can be two quite different things... It's allowing me to be a much more strategic shopper, and my wallet thanks. A new shopping rule, in addition to the old questions of what is the value per wear, and what would I pair this with (an item that I already own), I now also ask whether I would post the item on the blog in an outfit photo. 

Unfortunately on work mornings I seldom have time to snap pictures of my outfit, so I end up in a fitting room on my lunch break...not ideal, but the best I can do on most days. Today's room was at Zara (got a green long army jacket, and red ankle strap pumps for the fall, in addition to lots of stuff for the daughters) and I'm wearing Levine pants, Anthropologie knit top, Banana Republic necklace, Loft sandals, LV bag.

Summer in the Office

Today's office outfit is Banana Republic pants, Loft lace top, Loft sandals, J Crew jewelry, and LV bag. Picture snapped in the TJ Maxx changing room at lunch break (I tried on a few things, but no purchase this time). 

Casual

These boyfriend jeans have been my casual staple for three summers already and still going strong.. I haven't exactly been focusing on fashion lately, and this outfit reflects that; just basic casual. Instead I've been trying to live in the moment, enjoy the summer, my family, and a slightly slower pace. (Kmart Jeans, Banana Republic T-shirt, JCrew Sandals. LV Crossbody Bag.)

Friday Casual

Today was a hot, humid, and tired day. I just wanted to be comfortable in my Gap t-shirt, Ann Taylor pants, Zigi sandals, with Michael Kors bag and Charlotte Russe necklace. 

Summer's Office Casual

In the summer the office dress code is a bit more relaxed. Despite having a business lunch, a seminar, and a co-worker's goodbye party to go to today, I chose to go really casual. In the winter time I would have automatically reached for a suit, or a dress and jacket combo. But today I'm wearing a Marimekko top, Larry Levine ankle pants, Stella McCartney bag, Franco Sarto pumps, Charlotte Russe earrings, Thomas Sabo bracelet and a no brand bangle.

Not quite Lively

I love my Derek Lam top for Kohl's. Blake Lively likes it too! I may not win the who wore it better quiz, but who cares...I wear mine my way, with my NYDJ jeans, and the Stella McCartney bag. 

Chaperone

I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to post recent outfits, but here's one from a week and a half ago. I was dressed up to chaperone my daughter's graduation pool party with a black maxi dress (bought a couple of years ago in a discount shop where they cut the original labels off), the pink statement necklace from Charlotte Russe, Walmart flip flops, and Stella McCartney bag. 

Two Trends

They say not to combine more than two trends in an outfit..not a problem, since I'm not that trendy anyway. Today's outfit combines the ripped boyfriend jeans, a trend that's been around for a while (I'm wearing this pair of jeans for the third summer in a row), and statement necklace, another trend that's been around..I bought this pink necklace from Charlotte Russe (a store that my 10-year old loves) for $13 yesterday (and it wasn't even on sale!). Talk about bargains. A bargain of another kind was beckoning me at Bloomingdale's, a large Fendi Mama bag. I've had the smaller versions, and love how comfortable it is to carry. These were on sale for a very decent price, but I ended not getting either because I did not fall in love with either color. One was a very dull gray, and the other was baby poop brownish mustardy color. Wish they'd had it in a nicer brown... Then it definitely would have come home with me!
